Gambling prompts stabbing; suspect surrender

A man involved in an August armed robbery over gambling turned himself in Thursday after learning warrants were issued against him.


Liggins

Detective Obert Wiltsie of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the initial report was filed on August 31 when the victim reported that Martin Liggins, 49, of Enfield allegedly used an weapon consistent with a screwdriver or ice pick to assault him and rob him of his money earned while gambling.

The assault and robbery occurred at a hangout at the intersection Highway 48 and Medoc Mountain Road.

The victim was treated and released for a puncture wound in the chest area.

Liggins was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a dangerous weapon as well as misdemeanor habitual assault.

He was jailed on $11,000 bond and given a court date of November 6.
