Meacham returned to office in Weldon

Julia Meacham will return as mayor of Weldon, according to unofficial election returns.

Facing former mayor Johnny Draper, Meacham collected 58.56 percent of the votes to Draper's 41.44 percent.

That equates to 212 for Meacham and 150 for Draper.

In the Weldon Town Board of Commissioners race, three incumbents — Stanley Edwards, Susie Adams and Kimberly Ann Robinson were returned to office.

In other early election results, John White was returned to the mayor's seat in Halifax, beating out Gerald Wright. White collected 72 percent of the vote.

In Scotland Neck Mayor Leonard Bunting defeated former mayor James Mills by a 52.83 to 47.02 percent margin.

In the Roanoke Rapids Sanitary Board race, incumbents Jim Bailey, Paul Heaton and Eugene St. Clair were returned to office.
