The state Highway Patrol this morning confirmed that Terrence Morgan died just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Scotland Neck Police Chief Joe Williams said the police department was conducting a checking station on Highway 258 and Grace Ann Road when Morgan pulled into a driveway before the checkpoint, turned around and speeding off southbound.
Morgan took a right turn at Phillips Road and approached a curve with a rise at Old Highway 125 where he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle hit a curb and flipped. Morgan was ejected from the vehicle.
He was immediately transported to Our Community Hospital in Scotland Neck and then taken to Vidant in Greenville where he later died.
A passenger, Sada Farmer, was injured in the crash as well and treated and released from Vidant later.
Williams said the police department is conferring with the district attorney's office to determine whether obstruction charges may be filed against Farmer, who reportedly told police she was driving the car.
Williams said Morgan was maintaining a temporary address in Scotland Neck and had ties to the Fayetteville area.
He had warrants for assault on a female and failure to appear, Williams said.
The Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
