Weldon police are investigating a Saturday night armed robbery at the Family Dollar store on East Second Street.

Chief Mark Macon said the robbery occurred around 9:30 when two people described as black males entered the store, one with a white T-shirt tied around his face and the other with a black shirt wrapped in a similar fashion.

The clerk was threatened at gunpoint and complied, allowing one of the suspects to take an undisclosed amount of money from the register. A canine track went cold at Sycamore Street, where it is believed the men may have got into a car.

The men were of medium build and both wore dark clothing and jackets. No one was harmed and no customers were in the store at the time.
