Lieutenant Neil Aycock will be promoted to major of the uniformed division of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Wes Tripp said this afternoon.

The decision to promote Aycock comes after Mike Casey announced his retirement and was presented his badge and weapon at a county commissioners' meeting earlier this month.

Aycock's promotion will be effective February 1.

Aycock's promotion to major will move Sergeant Greg Richardson up to lieutenant and Dreher Bozard to sergeant, Tripp said.

Aycock, who began his career in law enforcement with the Enfield Police Department, “Has valuable experience as a supervisor,” the sheriff said.

Richardson began his career in law enforcement in 1999 while Bozard began in 2008.
