A high-speed chase that began this morning at the corner of Old Farm Road and Becker Drive and ended on Roper Springs Road has landed one man in police custody.

The chase began when Lieutenant Perry Parks of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department observed a crash at the intersection.

As he approached, a white Honda Accord sped off and pursuit of the car began. The chase, where Captain Andy Jackson said speeds reached a consistent 90 miles per hour, went through Thelma Road and ended on Roper Springs where the alleged suspect lives, law enforcement at the scene said.

The Accord at some point during the events hit a Roanoke Rapids patrol car head-on, law enforcement said.

Full information is not yet available as the man driving the Honda was still being booked.

Jackson said the initial crash Parks observed is believed to be the cause of a domestic dispute between the man and his girlfriend.
