A Roanoke Rapids man is in jail on $200,000 bond after a series of morning break-ins today, Roanoke Rapids police report.

Cody Ryan Roundtree, 22, faces charges of burglary, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, motor vehicle theft, larceny after breaking and entering and possessing and concealing stolen property.

His alleged crime spree began around 1:30 this morning and ended sometime around 4:30 when Weldon police detained him on a warrant filed by Roanoke Rapids Master Officer Terrence Tyler.

The stolen vehicle charge stems from the theft of white Ford ranger pickup, stolen from a 64-year-old victim on Rebecca Street that was observed by victims in the case.

The first call came in around 1:30 when Officer Greg Colson responded to Hales Branch Road where someone had broken into a vehicle. The victim heard a noise and when they looked outside saw someone putting items into the pickup.

When they hollered the person later identified as Roundtree sped off in the truck, spinning tires.

Around the same time, Officer Scott Blythe responded to the Birch Street area where three vehicles were broken into. One of the victims heard noises and saw the white truck pulling away from the scene.

The final crime was reported shortly after 4 this morning when Officer Chris Babb responded to a call at Summit Avenue about a break-in.

The victim reported she returned from work and heard noises inside her house. When she went to investigate she observed someone in her room. The person was allegedly stealing things, including a desktop scanner.

When the person was spotted, the victim stepped aside and Roundtree ran out of the residence.

The Weldon Police Department stopped Roundtree on Tyler's warrant. Further investigation led to the other charges and the recovery of the truck and the scanner.
