State Representative Michael Wray today announced his re-election campaign to serve a sixth term in the North Carolina House of Representatives District 27 comprising Halifax and Northampton Counties.

“I am running to continue my work for the next generation of North Carolinians who are depending on today’s leadership to provide them with the foundation they need to support improved education and a higher-wage job opportunities,” said Wray in a statement. “Over the past two years, I have opposed efforts to defund our public education systems, which will shortchange our future generations. I will continue to be a voice in Raleigh for critical investments in our education systems, our economy, and for the expansion of Medicaid.”

Wray has served five terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives and serves in a leadership role as Deputy Minority Leader.

He also serves on a number of key committees in the House of Representatives. He is Vice-Chairman of the Regulatory Reform committee and also serves on the influential Appropriations, Environment and Commerce and Job Development Committees. Representative Wray said he will have three priorities if elected to another term in the NC House.

He intends to invest in the public education system, community colleges and universities.

He plans to work to improve the local economy with job growth and development and expand Medicaid to help those most in need with access to affordable quality health care.

“It has been an honor to serve the people of Halifax and Northampton Counties. I want to continue my service by working even harder to represent the values and voices of my district in Raleigh,” said Wray. Wray is a small businessman, owning and operating several small businesses in Northampton and Halifax Counties.

He and his wife, Kay, are life-long residents of Northampton County and have twin sons, Matthew and Phillip.

He is active in numerous civic and community economic development organizations.
