An equipment violation Saturday led the Halifax County Sheriff's Office to discover a felony amount of cocaine.

Corporal Matt Brown, according to a statement, stopped a car on Country Club Road for an equipment violation. Following the stop, the deputy got consent to search the vehicle, and reportedly located a white rock substance under the seat that tested positive for cocaine.

The operator of the vehicle, Stanley Lee Turner, 54, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with felony possession of approximately 1.5 grams of cocaine and maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance.

He was given a $5,000 bond, and March 19 court date.
