As the city continues to study whether to grant a 10-month extension on its theater lease with HSV Entertainment, the company is seeking to do whatever it can to push the matter through.

Jay Hickey, a partner with the company managing the Royal Palace Theatre, told council at its meeting this evening, “If there's anything you need us to do, we'll be available at any time.”

Hickey said the company has been working for the past four months to get ahead on the matter. The lease is up in August. “It's the middle of April. We haven't seen any drafts. It's keeping us from booking shows. We request urgency in this matter.”

Council gave Hickey, who spoke during a public comment section of the meeting, no immediate response.

“We're discussing legal options with the city attorney,” City Manager Joseph Scherer said following the meeting. “We're determining how best we should proceed. We're making sure what our legal obligations are.”
