The Weldon Police Department is reaching out to the community to help one of its part-time who was injured in a crash in March.

Michael Sledge, a Northampton County Sheriff's Office deputy, continues to recover from injuries sustained in the crash, Weldon Police Chief Mark Macon said. “He's a lot better. He has a long way to go.”

Macon said Sledge is recovering from a broken knee and hip.

A barbecue sandwich fundraiser will be held at the Weldon Fire Station II near Halifax Community College Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Two barbecue sandwiches, cole slaw and chips costs $7. Tickets can be purchased at Weldon Town Hall, the Halifax County and Northampton County sheriff's offices, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, Halifax Community College and at KapStone. They are also available from Macon and will also be available at the day of the sale at the fire station.
