Man in Monday wreck blows .30

A Weldon man who allegedly blew nearly four times the legal alcohol limit was arrested after he crashed into the back of a vehicle Monday night.

Weldon Police Chief Mark Macon said Jesse Hamlin, 60, reportedly blew a .30. The legal limit in North Carolina is .08. His license were suspended following the matter and he awaits a July 28 court date.

According to state Department of Corrections records, he was given a suspended sentence in 1996 for DWI.

The crash occurred at the stop light at the entrance to Halifax Community College when Hamlin reportedly crashed his 1997 Buick LeSabre into the back of a Ford Explorer stopped at the light. His vehicle was totaled while the victim's sustained $1,000 in damages. The victim received medical treatment at Halifax Regional Medical Center for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Hamlin was charged with DWI, failure to stop to avoid an accident and having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

He was released to the custody of his family pending his court date.
