An 18-year-old man who had never been in trouble with the law before now faces charges related to a Tuesday night shooting, according to Enfield police.

Tony Russell Hill faces a count of assault with a deadly with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Hill surrendered to Enfield police Wednesday, Lieutenant Jerry Powell said.

He was released from custody on a $50,000 bond as he awaits his first court appearance. Powell said the bond amount reflects the man had no known prior brushes with the law.

Powell said this morning the shooting relates to ongoing tension in the community and undisclosed beef between Hill and the victim, 22-year-old Chaheem Parker.

Officers shortly before 8:15 p.m. Tuesday responded to Southeast Railroad and Alsop streets after hearing gunshots. They found Parker with a gunshot wound to the upper back. He was initially transported to UNC-Nash Healthcare and then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where was treated and later released.

Powell said officers used information gathered at the scene to file a warrant for Hill's arrest.

Investigation into the case continues. Powell said the Halifax County Sheriff's Office assisted in locating Hill and in his processing upon his surrender.

In response to the Enfield shooting and two murders in Weldon Monday night and Tuesday morning, Evangelist Theresa Jones, the founder of a group called Women of Worship, said she is planning a march on August 19 at 6 p.m. The march, she said, is to support the families. “We're standing for God. We are tired of the violence, the drugs, the gangs and all the foolishness that is going on in our towns. We declare we will tear Satan's kingdom down.”

The march is planned to start at the corner of Dennis and Plant streets and end at the Memorial Park on Highway 301 near Just Save.
