Marshals, according to Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp, apprehended the 18-year-old Weldon man around 5:45 this morning.

Tripp said it is unclear how long Anderson had been in New York. “We believe he had left the area shortly after the commission of the crime but we are not sure how long he had been in New York.”

Tripp declined to say whether Anderson had family members in the hamlet of Roosevelt, New York, on Long Island, where he was arrested by marshals.

Tripp said the sheriff's office has been working with the Raleigh Police Department's Fugitive Task Force Division, the New York City Fugitive Task Force Division and the marshals for more than a month.

Anderson was taken into custody and placed in the Nassau County Correctional Center where he currently awaits extradition.

There was no immediate timetable for his return to Halifax County, the sheriff said.

Tripp was pleased with the collaborative effort to get Anderson into custody for the August 4 murder of Garner, as well as the attempted murders of Wilson Green and Calvin Robinson. “We're happy to have Anderson in custody and grateful for the service the marshals provided.”

He also faces charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, sale of cocaine and deliver cocaine.
