Evidence of dogfighting in the Hollister area was reportedly found this afternoon, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies Emerson Carroll Phillip Moyer searched a wooded area of Will Richardson Road as well as an open field where a dogfighting ring was located.

There were signs, Sheriff Wes Tripp said, of a recent fight.

Deputies collected evidence, including items of dogfighting paraphernalia, which Tripp declined to immediately elaborate on.

Three dogs were seized that had injuries, although not life-threatening, that were consistent with dogfighting. Other evidence found connected the dogs to fighting as well, Tripp said.

Investigation is ongoing and arrests are pending.
