With the exception of a 60-day audit, the 2014 election season is complete.

It ended Wednesday with a final recount requested by Weldon City Schools Board of Education incumbent Edith Jenkins, who lost by four votes in the November 4 general election as well as a statewide recount requested in the state Supreme Court race.

None of the outcomes changed, county Board of Elections Director Kristin Scott confirmed this afternoon.

The recount began at 9 a.m. in the board of commissioners room at the Historic Courthouse in Halifax, where precinct officials volunteered their time to feed 17,651ballots through the machines to confirm the results of both the local and state election, Scott said.

The 60-day audit is a review to see how many people voted by absentee ballot through the mail as well as how many people voted through one-stop provisional and at consolidated precincts.

Scott was pleased with the volunteer help from the precinct officials. “They are some of the precinct officials who often help us,” she said. “I have good workers.”
