State Highway Patrol troopers serving a warrant for careless and reckless driving and other charges helped the City County Drug Task Force locate an indoor marijuana-growing operation at a residence off Highway 903 today.

The events that led to the arrest of Terick Andre Jerman, 37, began when Trooper J.A. Murray went to serve warrants that stemmed from a February 1 traffic stop where German was carelessly speeding on Highway 903, Murray said at the scene.

Jerman, however, gave the trooper his brother's name, leading to further investigation that determined it was actually Terick who was speeding.

Troopers went to the residence around 3 p.m. today and were refused entry. Murray said the troopers could smell marijuana coming from inside the back of the house and notified the task force, which had been to the residence in 2012 before the formation of the task force.

A portion of the equipment seized.

Task Force Captain Anzell Harris applied for a search warrant and agents went to residence located between a scrap yard and Dog Pound Road in the Halifax area to serve their warrant.

Some of the plants growing in a middle bedroom had been cut, Harris said, and it appeared others had been flushed.

Agents were observed taking out lights, poles and other items used for indoor growing. The room used for the growing operation was about an 8 by 10 bedroom, which took up most of the space, Harris said.

Agents were in the process of booking Jerman as of this report, but Harris said he was going to be charged with possession of drug paraphernalia; simple possession of marijuana; manufacturing marijuana and maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance.

Murray was charging Jerman with identity theft; resist delay and obstruct; no operators license, which Murray said was the reason German used his brother's name; careless and reckless driving and speeding.

He was given a $20,000 bond for the task force charges and a $5,000 bond for the highway patrol charges. In additional he was given a $2,000 cash bond for felony probation violation. He has April 22 and March 18 court dates.
