The Halifax Community College Garden was presented a certificate of appreciation from Monarch Watch Thursday.

HCC Greenhouse and Grounds Maintenance Instructor Peggy Lynn was on hand to receive the certificate.

The HCC Garden was established as a monarch waystation and provides milkweed, nectar sources and shelter needed to sustain monarch butterflies as they migrate through North America.

Pictured are, from left, Jean Carter, Lynn and Tina Gregory.

Carter and Gregory are with Friends of the Roanoke Canal Museum and Trail.

The museum, Roanoke Rapids High School and Roanoke Rapids Public Library were also presented certificates.
