Tickets sales are doing well for the second annual Roanoke Rapids Seafood and Shag Festival, reports Christina Caudle, the city's Main Street Development director.

The event kicks off June 5 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Centennial Park and will feature the music of Steve Owens and Summertime.

The $40 ticket price gets visitors an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet and non-alcoholic beverages, shag lessons and a shag dance contest. In case of inclement weather the event will be held at Kirkwood Adams.

“This is our big fundraiser for the year,” Caudle said today. “The whole proceeds will go to the non-profit to help fund banners and several other projects to revitalize uptown and downtown.”

These projects include awning and facade improvements for Roanoke Avenue businesses. Recent recipients include Countryside Interiors and Pepper and Doughtie. Welcome Finance and It's All About You Florist and Gifts have also been announced as recipients of painting and facade improvement funds.

“It's a fun event,” Caudle said. “All proceeds go into revitalization so you know where your charity money is being spent.”

A beer and wine garden will also be available where beverages can be consumed from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Sponsors of the event include Edward D. Jones; the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau; Big Time Pawn; Oscars; Moncure Homes; Halifax Regional Medical Center; the Daily Herald; Newsom Oil and Gas; Tillery Designs; Magnolia Gardens Senior Care and Lancaster Marketing Group.

More information can be obtained on the event's Facebook page.
