A Weldon man has been indicted and charged with murder in the shooting deaths of four people in the Glenview community last summer.

As defendants charged in the murders of four friends playing cards last summer in the Glenview community of the Enfield area are scheduled to make their first Halifax County Superior Court appearances next month, one of them has twice demanded his right to a speedy trial.

A Halifax County Grand Jury today returned true bills of indictment against three men charged in the murders of four elderly people in the Glenview community last summer.

James Powell and Dillon Irby will be assigned capital defenders in a weekend murder and shooting and the capital defender will also represent Powell in the murders of four people in the Glenview community in August.

Two more people, including one who was arrested in a Roanoke Rapids area murder this weekend and one who took a plea in a 2014 shooting, have been charged in the August murders of four elderly people in the Glenview community.

Simms set for next court appearance on Nov. 15

Charged in the August murders of four elderly people in the Glenview community, Matthew Simms will return to court on November 15 so the North Carolina Office of Indigent Defense Services can determine whether he will retain attorneys assigned to his previous cases or be assigned new ones.

Enfield man charged in Glenview murders

Matthew Simms, an Enfield man already facing a December court date for a 2015 murder, has been charged in the murders of four elderly people in the Glenview community in August.

New information released today in the murders of four people in the Glenview community in August says investigators believe the residence was specifically targeted and the crime is gang-related.

Multiple agencies continue Glenview murder probe

As investigation continues into the shooting deaths of four people in the Glenview community last month, Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said numerous agencies, both federal, state and local, are working with his investigators.
