The Halifax County Chapter of the NAACP today criticized comments made by Commissioner Patrick Qualls Monday on the rising cost of legal fee associated with a lawsuit brought on by the organization and others.

With a lawsuit against the board of commissioners on school funding set to be argued in the state Supreme Court next month, county officials say its legal fees are expected to double.

Court of appeals upholds dismissal of school lawsuit

The North Carolina Court of Appeals in a 2-1 opinion has upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit against the Halifax County Board of Commissioners which focused on the operation of three separate school systems.

The state Court of Appeals Monday will hear arguments in a lawsuit against the Halifax County Board of Commissioners which targets the operation of three separate school districts in the county.

Briefs outline county arguments in school lawsuit

Briefs filed Wednesday in Halifax County Civil Court show the county will argue five points in its attempts to dismiss a lawsuit seeking to unify its three school districts.

A 38-page lawsuit filed today on behalf of students in the Halifax County School System claims the maintenance of three separate systems “obstructs Halifax County's students from securing the opportunity to receive a sound, basic education.”
