Man faces opium trafficking, cocaine counts

A Littleton area man was arrested today for opium trafficking as well as cocaine possession.

Fed up with taxes imposed by Great Britain and the obstruction of self-governance, American colonists were ready to free themselves from British rule.

Drugs, guns seized at checking station

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Charges stemming from a 2011 murder in Halifax County against Lester Kearney were dismissed in 2013 and the man took a plea to obstruction of justice in the case, court records show.

Two men with previous criminal ties to Halifax and Warren counties are in custody without opportunity for bond in the first-degree murder of Roanoke Rapids psychologist Nancy Alford.

Quiz Bowl set Wednesday

The Halifax County Public Library Quiz Bowl will be held on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the Halifax County Agricultural Center Auditorium in Halifax.

Whether through renovation or replacement, Weldon High School is the top capital priority within the district, presentations shown at a joint meeting with Halifax County commissioners this evening show.

The combined teams of Willis Hare Elementary and Conway Middle Schools — the Roboticians — won the overall champion award for the Fourth Annual Roanoke River Valley Education Consortium Ultineers Robotics Tournament in the Griffin Centre at Halifax Community College Saturday.

The vehicle stolen from John and Nancy Alford following a deadly home invasion last week has been found.
