For the final race with Sport Clips as the primary sponsor, Elliott Sadler scored the third starting spot for the Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway and after 200 laps around the 1.5-mile track, finished 10th.
With the race underway and Sadler running in the top five, he reported to the team early in the race that his Sport Clips Toyota was “really tight” and the team began discussing possible changes to make under the lap 25 competition due to heavy rain passing through the area Friday evening. Pitting on lap 25 from the seventh position for his first stop of the race, the No. 11 Sport Clips crew changed right-side tires and made adjustments to help with the handling. The race restarted on lap 30 with Sadler in the seventh spot.
Continuing to run in the top 10, Sadler avoided multiple cautions over the next 50 laps and utilized every opportunity to save fuel.
The field began making green-flag pit stops on lap 85 with Sadler opting to bring his No. 11 Sport Clips Toyota to pit road on lap 88 from the second position for four tires, fuel and adjustments. As Sadler exited pit road and began working his way back up to speed while running on the apron of the track, he spun out but sustained no damage. The Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) team called Sadler back to pit road for four fresh tires and to top off with fuel. The race restarted on lap 94 with the No. 11 team in the 24th position, one lap down to the leaders.
Sadler received the “Lucky Dog” award on lap 116 when the caution was again displayed, allowing the No. 11 Sport Clips team to return to the lead lap. With his Camry now too loose and unhappy with the previous round of changes, Sadler brought his No. 11 Toyota to the hands of his crew for four tires, fuel and another round of adjustments to help correct the handling. The race restarted on lap 120 with Sadler 20th.
Picking off one car at a time, Sadler moved back in to the top 15 on lap 137 and returned to the top 10 after making his final stop of the 200-lap event under caution on lap 145 for fuel and a round of adjustments to continue improving the handling of the No. 11 Sport Clips Toyota.
Over the final laps of the race, Sadler was able to run as high as third before slipping to 10th when he crossed the finish line.
