Roanoke Rapids Native Kaylan Smith soccer career comes to an end

LANCASTER, SC — The Louisburg College women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by Cape Fear CC in the Region X Tournament championship game, Sunday afternoon. The loss puts a close to their season and the Canes finish the 2013 with an overall record of 16-4.

Kaylan Smith wrote this note on Facebook after her team lost and with her permission I am re-posting for our readers to see what this sport has ment to this young lady.

Well, I just emptied my bag and put my cleats away. No practice tomorrow. Today I played my last official game of soccer. It's so weird knowing now that there isn't a "next time" or "next season". It's just over. It breaks my heart that we lost today, but I love my team. Soccer has meant so much to me ever since I started playing. It's helped me with so much in life. I've made wonderful memories, played with some of the most awesome people. Have been part of one of the best teams in the nation. I went to NATIONALS, and I'm so grateful for the things I've seen as I've travel so much over the last 12+ years. I've won several championships, been runner up for some. Had some bad seasons, some bad games and practices, but with that being said, that's made me the player and the person that I am today. I will hold on to ever memory that I have and remember everyone that has made me love soccer. Thanks so much for any support that you've given me. And thank you to Crystal Grizzard Smith and Edward Grizzard for the thousands of gallons of gas they've used to come to basically ALL of my games through my entire life. Even when I didn't have a good game I know y'all were still y number one fans and I love y'all so much for making everything possible for me.  and thank you to Joe Mosher for being my first AWESOME coach that made me love the game and taught me so much growing up. I love you and thanks for great times! I guess I should stop rambling now lol. But thanks again for everyone that has supported me. It's time to move on and focus on school and my future now. But if anyone wants to kick around. Let me know.

I had the pleasure to have Kaylan as one of my thousands of young adults I have photographed in sports over the years. I wish her nothing but success in her life ahead. Thanks for the enjoyment - Randy Wrenn
