Sarah Prezioso has begun her tenure as dean of Business, Transfer, and Service Careers at Halifax Community College.
“Dean Prezioso has a track record of demonstrating commitment to academic excellence, student success outcomes, transfer pathway implementation, advising, faculty development, and post-graduation success,” HCC said. “Dean Prezioso brings a wealth of knowledge, skills, and expertise to the deanship.”
She recently served as the assistant director for the Children's Developmental Services Agency, which is a part of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
Prior to that role, she was actively engaged in the community college environment for approximately 18 years at Nash Community College.
Prezioso has served as an early childhood education faculty member, program director, and department chair of multiple programs in the community college environment.
She has led academic program development, supported and partnered with faculty, and advanced student success initiatives.
During her time in various academic leadership positions, she played a pivotal role in maintaining the early childhood program's NAEYC accreditation.
She was recognized for her excellence in the classroom with the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2018, the highest honor given to a faculty member at the college level within the community college system.
In December of 2024, Prezioso completed a year-long leadership program offered by the Belk Center at North Carolina State University. The program focused on both technical and social-emotional aspects of leadership.
This program provided graduates with newly honed skills to enhance multiple areas within the college. “There is abundant evidence that Dean Prezioso will draw on her experience to partner with faculty, staff, students, and the community to provide innovative solutions that improve student experiences and outcomes at HCC.”
She holds a bachelor’s degree in child development from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a master's degree in Family Studies from Boston University's Wheelock College of Education & Human Development.
In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her family and knitting.
