On Tuesday, Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt visited Halifax County Community College as a part of her Future-Ready Community College Tour

“Halifax Community College is a really impressive institution,” said Hunt. “Between the emergence of AI and rising costs, it’s clear that the labor market is facing a lot of uncertainty. But I feel confident that community colleges like HCC can help us weather whatever comes next. They provide real value to their students and help them prepare for Future-Ready jobs that will always be in-demand.”

"We were thankful that Lieutenant Governor Hunt visited us today,” said Halifax Community College President Patrena Benton Elliott. “HCC is nationally recognized for a reason. Between our dentistry programs, advanced manufacturing facility, and other learning opportunities, I think the Lieutenant Governor could see why. We strive to embody what it means to be Future-Ready in everything we do.”

Hunt toured the Advanced Manufacturing program, Dental Hygiene and Assistance programs, and on-campus Head Start pre-school.

Established in 1967, Halifax Community College is one of the oldest in the North Carolina Community College System, offering associate’s degree programs and continuing education. Halifax Community College is a public, two-year college within the North Carolina Community College System. The campus is located in Weldon, North Carolina, near the southern Virginia border. The College serves Halifax County and part of Northampton County with a population of approximately 65,000 people.

Hunt’s policy platform, Future-Ready North Carolina, champions investments in child care, early childhood education, and workforce development, in part through North Carolina’s community colleges.

As part of the Future-Ready Plan, Hunt will visit all 58 North Carolina community colleges and spotlight workforce development initiatives, including jobs of the future.

During each stop of the tour, Hunt will highlight unique programs focused on workforce development and meet with local employers and community leaders to enhance partnership and collaboration.

As a member of both the State Board of Education and Community College Board, the lieutenant governor works to support the leaders of tomorrow by ensuring the state provides affordable college courses and programs to anyone in North Carolina.
