Halifax Community College will hold an Operation Restore Hope seminar which focuses on record expungement.

The seminar will be held July 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Griffin Centre on the HCC campus. It is a joint project between the college, the Northampton County Branch of the NAACP and Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The seminar will feature judges, lawyers, clerks of court from Halifax and Northampton counties, and a representative from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Expungement Unit.

They will guide citizens through the record expungement process.

According to the North Carolina Judicial Branch, an expungement is a legal process to remove a criminal conviction or a criminal charge from a person’s record and to seal or destroy the state’s records of the arrest, charge and/or conviction.

Those in attendance seeking information on an expungement should bring to the seminar a certified copy of the record from the clerk in the county where charged to help determine if qualifications are met for an expungement.

The certified copy of the record will be reviewed and will help the individual determine if qualifications are met for record expungement.

A certified copy of the record is required for submission of the record expungement application.

More information on record expungement can be found at this link

The event will also feature a job fair and information on enrollment at Halifax Community College.
