Halifax Community College recently held its fourth annual White Coat Ceremony at the Dr. Ervin V. Griffin Sr. Centre on the college’s campus.

This event honors the accomplishments of HCC’s nursing students.

The program included a tribute to the college's nursing tradition, presented by Sarah Harris, program director of nursing.

The keynote speaker was Peggy Dunn.

The keynote address was followed by the presentation of students by Dr. Julie Galvin, interim dean of academic affairs and Science Department head while Maria Navarro and Helen Ford carried out the cloaking of the students.

The white coat is a symbol of the dedication that the students have put into the program so far, and marks the transition from student to nursing professional.

Ford led the Nursing Oath, emphasizing the commitment to the principles and ethics of the nursing profession.

The ceremony also included the presentation of student awards by Tia Alfonso and Kara Clary, who recognized outstanding achievements among the graduating nursing students.

Dr. Barbara Hasty, vice president of academic and student affairs, delivered closing remarks, and expressed pride in the “accomplishments of the students and the dedication of the faculty and staff.”

Said the college: “Halifax Community College congratulates all the students honored during the ceremony, and looks forward to their continued success in the nursing field.”
