Halifax Community College will host the 2024 Progressive Community Awards on April 25 at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Ervin V. Griffin, Sr. Centre. 

The event will feature the college’s recognition of change-makers and positive influencers in the Roanoke Valley. 

The nomination period is through March 25.

To nominate someone for the award, nominators must submit a form, which includes an essay that corresponds to one of the nomination categories. 

The award categories are: Business Impact Award, Youth Leader Award, and Community Bridge Builder Award.

The narrative should expand and focus on specific examples that demonstrate the nominee’s commitment and unique contributions to the Roanoke Valley. Any citizen in the Roanoke Valley is eligible to be considered for this nomination.

Self-nominations are acceptable. Nominators may not nominate more than one person. 

The narrative for the Business Impact Award should describe the nominee’s unwavering commitment and contributions, demonstrating sustained dedication and tangible efforts towards their business goals. Their innovation should be evident through groundbreaking ideas or solutions that have significantly advanced their industry. 

Exceptional leadership skills must be displayed, guiding teams with vision and inspiration, resulting in substantial impact and tangible results within their organization and beyond.

The narrative for the Youth Leader Award should describe the nominee’s exceptional initiative and leadership in identifying community needs and taking action to address them, inspiring others to participate in positive change. 

The nominee has established or participated in projects or initiatives that have made a tangible and positive impact on their community. The nominee demonstrates innovation and creativity in their approach to community improvement, and promotes inclusivity and diversity in their work, fostering a sense of belonging and participation.

The narrative for the Community Bridge Builder Award should describe how the nominee has been actively involved in enhancing the community through meaningful contributions. 

The nominee's unselfish devotion to others should also be highlighted. In addition, the narrative should mention how the nominee consistently takes proactive steps to drive innovation and progress within the region, while inspiring others through visionary leadership.
