The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Lieutenant Morgan Worrell:
Sunday while conducting a stationary patrol Traffic Officer M. Morris witnessed a traffic violation on Smith Church Road near Vine Street.
Morris attempted to stop the vehicle for the violation but the driver, identified as Mahkhi Bynum, continued through the parking lot of ECU Health North before coming to a stop.
Bynum was taken into custody and during a probable cause search of the vehicle a 9mm handgun was located in the passenger area along with approximately 10 grams of marijuana.
Bynum was charged with possession of a firearm by felon, carrying a concealed weapon, misdemeanor flee/elude, simple possession marijuana, speeding, and no operator’s license.
He was jailed without the opportunity for bond and was also being held for a felony probation violation.
He has an April 24 district date for the Sunday offenses and was scheduled to appear in superior court today on the probation violation.
Larceny
On Saturday officers responded to Premier Boulevard for a call of a larceny that had just occurred.
Officer C. Cooke arrived on scene and located several individuals in the parking lot of the business who matched the description given at the time of the larceny.
Corey Evans, 35, of Dinwiddie, Virginia, ran from Cooke and was subsequently captured after a brief foot pursuit and struggle.
Evans, who Worrell said stole clothing and jewelry maintenance items, was charged with misdemeanor larceny and resist, delay, or obstruct an officer. He received a $500 bond and a May 30 district court date.

Police are seeking the assistance of the public to identify a man who on April 14 stole baby and hygiene items around 8:30 p.m. from a Premier Boulevard store.
