Weeks ago Halifax County Sheriff Tyree Davis applied to attend specialized executive training at the FBI Academy in Quantico.

Davis was notified Monday he was selected to attend the National Sheriffs Institute Communicating for Impact Course.

This course is provided at no cost to the sheriff’s office or the county by the National Institute of Corrections and U.S. Department of Justice, in collaboration with the Major County Sheriffs of America, National Sheriffs Institute and the FBI.

Davis was selected to join 17 other sheriffs from across the country to attend the NSI’s course. This course focuses on enhancing a sheriff’s ability to inspire, motivate, inform, build trust, and lead change, while promoting and supporting their organization’s mission, vision, and values. After completion he will be one of 36 Sheriff’s across the country that has this training.

The NSI is the only executive leadership training program designed specifically for sheriffs to prepare them for all matters that impact their office. The NSI was established in the early 1970s in response to a need by sheriffs to meet the evolving demands of the office.

This is only the second time this class is being held with the inaugural held class last month.

“Even as sheriff and after over 23 years of law enforcement training, education, experience and leadership I will always keep learning and training to master my craft. To lead my community, my wonderful team and to build future law enforcement leaders I have to continue to lead by example.”

He said, “Being selected as one of 18 sheriffs in the entire country to attend this training class is a huge deal. I look forward to meeting and training with the other 17 Sheriffs under the guidance and leadership of the NSI and the FBI.”

Said the sheriff: “This is the second time I’ve been selected to attend training with the National Sheriffs Institute at the FBI Academy. I’m honored that the NSI and the FBI valued my training, education, experience and leadership as not only a law enforcement officer but as a sheriff to allow me to represent them while representing Halifax County, the state of North Carolina on a national level.”

This training will take place in the coming months.
