A third Democrat filed for one of three at-large Halifax County Board of Commissioners seats in the March 3 election, according to the board of elections.
James E. Mills filed for the seat on Thursday. He is the third Democrat to file, joining incumbents Vernon Bryant and Chenoa Richardson Davis. Commissioner Sammy Webb, who is running as a Republican, is also facing competition from retired law enforcement chief Chuck Hasty.
Also on Thursday, incumbent Edith Jenkins filed for re-election to the Weldon City Schools Board of Education, as did newcomer Travis T. Green. Incumbents Tanya Byrd-Robinson and Tiffany Hale have yet to file for the election, which will be held in November.
In the United States Senate race, Republican Margot Dupre of Charlotte became the fourth member of the GOP to file for the seat being vacated by Thom Tillis. Former Governor Roy Cooper and Daryl Farrow are the two Democrats running for the seat.

Halifax County School Board
Joyce Lashley filed Wednesday to retain her seat on the Halifax County School Board.
Incumbents Claude Cooper and Michael Hawkins are also up for re-election.
District 7 District Attorney
Democratic incumbent Kim G. Scott has filed.
Halifax County Sheriff
Incumbent Tyree Davis has filed and expects to face competition from Roanoke Rapids businessman Tracy Story.
Halifax County Clerk of Superior Court
Newcomers Chris Kidd and Ronnie Reeves are running for the office. Incumbent Clerk Lisa Turner is not seeking re-election.
House District 27
Incumbent Rodney Pierce and former Representative Michael Wray will battle in the Democratic race. Republican Kenneth Bentley Jr. has filed for the seat.
Republicans Bobby Hanig, Eric Rouse, and Asa Buck have filed to run. Democratic incumbent Don Davis has not filed as of this report.
