About 11 miles of Highway 48 will be repaved after the North Carolina Department of Transportation awarded a $2.2 million contract just before Christmas.
NCDOT said the section of highway to be milled and resurfaced is between Highways. 4 and 903 and runs through the Aurelian Springs community.
The contractor may start work in January and will have one year to complete everything.
While under construction, drivers will encounter occasional lane closures utilizing flagging operations.
Drivers should be prepared to stop and proceed cautiously in the open lane of traffic.
