A winter storm warning is in effect for most of central NC, including the Triangle and Roanoke Rapids, the National Weather Service reported this afternoon.
A winter weather advisory remains for Wayne, Sampson, and Cumberland counties.

Sleet and freezing rain are expected to continue across the Piedmont and northern I-95 corridor through this evening. Areas south and east of Fayetteville will likely see a transition to plain rain.
Precipitation intensity is expected to increase from west to east later this afternoon. The event is projected to end by 3 a.m. Monday for the Triangle and points west, and by 7 a.m. for areas to the east.
Up to 1/4 inch of additional ice is possible for a zone including Roanoke Rapids, Raleigh, and Albemarle.
Less than 1 inch of additional sleet is expected north and west of the Triangle.
Expected impacts
Hazardous driving conditions are expected to persist through the night, even in areas where temperatures are marginally around freezing.
Significant ice accumulations may lead to power outages and falling trees.
Temperatures will plummet after the storm. Single-digit lows are forecast for Monday night. Wind chills on Monday night and Tuesday morning are expected to reach 3°F in Roanoke Rapids and as low as -4°F in Winston-Salem and Roxboro.
