KapStone Paper says nine outside contractors were injured when a catwalk collapsed Saturday night shortly after 9.

Mills Communication Manager Kimberly Bracy said seven were treated and released and two remain hospitalized. The contractors were doing shutdown work at the mill when the catwalk collapsed.

Bracy said mill officials are working with the contractor’s employers to determine what happened and to prevent future occurences.

It has not been determined how far the workers fell and Bracy said she couldn’t elaborate on whether the catwalk was KapStone’s or the contractor’s.

Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad Commander Mark Collier said the injuries ranged from broken bones to cuts and bruises
