Nancy Eckert keeps the Weldon Police Department in stitches.

That’s why she and her husband, Dave, were honored by Chief Mark Macon with plaques at tonight’s board meeting.

The Eckerts were responsible for refining the department’s patch board, a board which recognizes police departments throughout the country through patch exchanges.

The Eckerts bought cloth and new boards for the display, Macon said. The board can be seen in the hall of the police department. “She also sews for us and hems our pants.”

Mrs. Eckert said she and her husband, who was not at tonight’s meeting, were glad to do it. “I’m proud of all the guys. I know when I go to sleep I can sleep.”

In a matter related to the police department, the board allowed Macon to order a 2011 Dodge Charger, which will be delivered in the fall.

The base price of the Charger is $21,582, Macon said. With painting and adding necessary police equipment, the car will cost $26,562.

Macon said he priced a Chevrolet Caprice and the base cost was $25,000. He said he has to make the order by April 28.

Mayor Julia Meacham said the money was planned for the upcoming fiscal year budget before former Town Administrator Phyllis Lee left.
