A Garysburg man has been arrested for two armed robberies, one recently and one in November.

The man, Prentis Markeith Crossen, 18, is also allegedly considered a suspect in the robbery of the Interstate 95-Highway 46 Village Grocery robbery in Northampton County.

Working together Friday, officers from Roanoke Rapids, Garysburg and Weldon police departments, along with the Northampton and Halifax County sheriff’s offices, took search warrants to several locations and were able to charge Crossen in two Roanoke Rapids robberies, one on February 12 in which cigarettes were taken and the robbery of the BP station on Julian Allsbrook Highway in which money was demanded.

Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said detectives are still working to determine whether Crossen is responsible for a third robbery in the city, the same BP station that was robbed in November.

Thus far Crossen has been charged with two counts each of robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony possession of stolen goods and felony larceny. He was jailed on $300,000 bond.

Jackson declined to discuss what items were recovered or how Crossen came to be identified as a suspect.

What is known is that University of North Carolina hospital police held Crossen on outstanding warrants for failure to appear in Halifax and Northampton counties, Jackson said.

Crossen was at the hospital visiting a close friend.

While Jackson declined to discuss details of the case, he said, “We do have a good, solid, case.”

He also praised the work of the agencies, which came together to investigate the man. “Friday afternoon we had 18 officers in the detective office to assist us on the case. With a joint venture, we all went out together and went to several locations which led us to the arrest of the suspect. We’re very much appreciative of all these agencies.”
