A Weldon man has been charged in an early Sunday morning hit and run and chase which began in South Rosemary and ended when he crashed on Caroline Street in Weldon.

Teddy Keith Anderson, 35, faces charges of DWI, hit and run inflicting serious injury, flee to elude arrest, driving left of center and resist, delay and obstruct.

The events leading to Anderson’s eventual arrest in Weldon began around 1 a.m. when he allegedly crashed into a car at the intersection of Highway 48 and Highway 158 near Bobby’s Supermarket in Roanoke Rapids.

Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said the crash caused serious damage but Anderson allegedly left the scene driving what was described as a gold Honda.

Officer K. Jordan spotted the car riding by him on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway. Jordan got behind Anderson and engaged his blue lights and siren. Anderson did not stop and Jordan followed him into Weldon.

Anderson turned onto Country Club Road where Jackson said the report notes he picked up speed and was driving on both sides of the road. The report does not indicate how fast Anderson was traveling but notes when he attempted to turn onto Caroline Street he lost control and struck a fire hydrant.

Anderson exited the car from the driver’s side window and fled, but was apprehended by Officer T. Tyler.

Anderson was jailed on $3,000 bond and has a June 8 court date.

The report does not indicate the extent of injuries the person in the vehicle Anderson struck sustained.
