The Halifax Resolves Chapter of the North Carolina Society Sons of the American Revolution will celebrate the 237th anniversary of the adoption of the Halifax Resolves April 6 on the site of the Colonial Courthouse on North King Street in Halifax.
The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. with a flag retirement ceremony sponsored by the chapter, the Edwin Haynes Gregory American Legion Post 98 and the Elizabeth Montfort Ashe Chapter NCSDAR.
Anyone having a flag they need to have retired is encouraged to bring them to the ceremony. Ashes of the flags will be interred in a local cemetery following the ceremony.
The chapter will host a luncheon at noon at the Halifax United Methodist Church.
This is an RSVP only event and pre-payment is required. The cost is $10 per person.

The 2 p.m. ceremony celebrating the 237th anniversary of the adoption of the Halifax Resolves will be held on the site of the Colonial Courthouse.
Masonic Grand Master Dewey Preslar will be in attendance and will bring greetings from the Masonic Order.
The Roanoke Rapids High School JROTC will present the colors assisted by the NCSSAR Combined Color Guard.
Dr. Scott Kennedy of the Raleigh Chapter of the SAR will be the keynote speaker. The topic of the presentation will be Halifax and the Revolution. Numerous SAR and DAR chapters will be represented along with various veterans groups and other patriotic organizations. Anyone interested in participating in the wreath laying ceremony should contact Steve Avent at the address above.
