The driver in a fatal crash on Sam Powell Dairy Road Wednesday morning now faces charges of felony death by motor vehicle and two counts of felony injury by motor vehicle.
The charges filed against Crystal Boswell, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, reflect alcohol was allegedly involved in the crash that killed Michael Bowden, 30, of Littleton, Trooper J.D. Warren of the state Highway Patrol said this afternoon.
Warren said Boswell was taken to the magistrate’s office in Halifax were she was served warrants for the new charges. She was jailed on a $10,000 secured bond and has a June 10 court date where she must also answer to charges of DWI and driving while license revoked.
Warren also said he is still trying to determine whether the wreck might be related to fight calls received Tuesday night on Farley Circle. The wreck occurred on Sam Powell Dairy Road at Farley Circle. Thus far there is nothing to substantiate links between the two, he said.
Warren said one of the passengers ejected in the wreck, Jazmine Hooten, was released from Vidant Medical Center. The second person ejected, Montrae Whitaker, is still at the Greenville hospital and is undergoing surgery.
Boswell was the driver of the Toyota Four Runner that crashed and Bowden was apparently a passenger in the right rear of the vehicle. He died after being ejected from the vehicle.
Boswell was traveling west on Sam Powell Dairy Road shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday when she ran off the road to the right and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to run off the road to the left. The vehicle struck a ditch and overturned several times. Bowden, Whitaker, 26, of Littleton, and Hooten, 16, of Roanoke Rapids, were ejected from the vehicle.
