The investigation of a Saturday night pedestrian death remains open and hinges on the results of a medical examiner’s report.
State Highway Patrol Sergeant B.W. Overton said Trooper R.P. Dennis’ initial report indicates that Milton Larry Hudson Jr., 53, of Thirteen Bridges Road, Enfield, was lying in the roadway when he was struck by a minivan driven by a Rocky Mount man.
The minivan driver, Larry Coburn Robertson, 67, was traveling to pick someone up on Thirteen Bridges Road shortly before 9:45 p.m. Robertson apparently struck Hudson, whose body got caught in the vehicle and was dragged three-tenths of a mile to the driver’s destination.
Overton said it was not clear if Robertson called 911 while driving or when he reached his destination to report what happened.
The medical examiner’s report is expected to answer questions on why Hudson was lying in the roadway. Overton said it would help the investigating trooper determine whether Hudson was already deceased, passed out from a pre-existing medical condition or other factor or whether the impact with the minivan caused his death.
Once the investigation is complete, a report will be presented to the district attorney’s office, Overton said.
