Celebratory shots on New Year's Eve led to a felon's arrest, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Major Scott Hall said in a statement that around 8:45 p.m. deputies Josh Langley and Dustin Newsome responded to Stephens Street in Roanoke Rapids where they learned Raymond Mitchell Spence, 50, was allegedly discharging a weapon into the air.

The deputies charged Spence with possession of a weapon by a felon. He was jailed on $15,000 bond and has a February 5 court date.
