The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

May 6

Around 1 p.m., Sergeant Daniel Jenkins and Officer Scott Blythe responded to a suspicious persons call in the 100 block of Jefferson Street.

They located Jonathan C. Cavanaugh, 39, and Daniel Travez Vowels, 30, both of Roanoke Rapids, disassembling an air conditioning unit.

The officers were told the residence was to be demolished and that they had spoken with the person in charge to get the AC unit.

Cavanaugh and Vowels were released from the residence until their story could be verified.

Lieutenant Charles Burnette followed up with the company in charge of the demolition project and obtained warrants on Cavanaugh and Vowels for larceny and damage to property.

On May 9, around 2:30 p.m., Officer Ryan Cross arrested Vowels on the outstanding warrant.

Vowels was given a $20,000 bond and a June 5 court date.

Cavanaugh turned himself in around 7:30 p.m. to Master Officer Gorton Williams.

Cavanaugh was given a $500 bond and a June 5 court date.

May 9

Around 3 p.m., Lawrence Clinton Johnson III, 20, of Roanoke Rapids was arrested on outstanding warrants by members of D-Squad at a residence on Quail Court.

Johnson's arrest stems from a matter Master Officer Mark Peck investigated on May 3 where Johnson allegedly stole a purse from the victim.

Johnson was charged with larceny from the person and resisting arrest.

Johnson received a $5,000 bond and a court date of June 10.

Additional warrants have been obtained for crimes that occurred on May 7 and 9 — breaking and entering, first burglary and four counts of resisting a public officer.

Officers Adam Salmon and Greg Colson responded to a call about children left inside a car in the Walgreen’s parking lot.

The officers found two children inside the vehicle asleep.

Salmon located the owner of the vehicle, Danuell Latonya Broady, 25, of Roanoke Rapids.

During the investigation of the call Salmon learned that Broady had an outstanding warrant for assault with a deadly weapon.

She was arrested on that warrant and charged with child neglect for leaving the children unattended in the vehicle.

She was held without the opportunity for bond because of the domestic nature of the assault.

She was given a court date of June 12.

May 10

Around 4:15 a.m., Officer Jeff Mason was on routine patrol when he noticed Charles Phillip Allen, 37, of Roanoke Rapids, asleep in front a business on East Tenth Street.

During the interaction Mason found marijuana and a pipe on Allen.

Mason cited Allen for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Allen was released until his court date of July 10. Officer Greg Colson assisted.

Around 2:30 p.m., Master Officer Gerald Morris responded to the Dollar Tree on Premier Boulevard about a larceny.

Morris located Sonia Rene Goodfellow, 53, of Gaston, and arrested and charged her with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Around 5:30 p.m., Cross responded to a call in the Rose's parking lot area of the Great Falls Shopping Center about a person going into vehicles.

After speaking with the victim, Cross located Sherri Lee Laffoday, 58, of Weldon arrested and charged her with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and larceny.
