The Roanoke Rapids Police Department has received two complaints of individuals impersonating a law enforcement officer this week.
Chief Chuck Hasty said the first occurred Saturday night around 10:15 at a store in the 100 block of Roanoke Avenue.
Individuals told Officer Joey Spragins a person flipped out a sheriff’s badge and told them he was going to lock them up. He then told them he was joking and left the area.
The person was described as a black male in his 40s or 50s and was wearing black shorts and a tan shirt.
The second matter occurred Wednesday around 7:45 p.m. on East Tenth Street.
A person told Master Officer Mark Peck a vehicle with blue lights came up behind them. They pulled into a parking lot and observed the suspect vehicle was a black Honda Civic with Virginia tags.
The passenger was described as a white male with short hair. No description of the driver was available.
The occupants never got out and drove off.
Hasty said in situations like these it is best to slow down and put on your hazard lights. “Call 911 and tell them you are not comfortable and don't think it's a cop following you.”
He said pull over to a well-lighted area.
