A drug activity call at Motel 6 Wednesday led to the discovery equipment used in the manufacture of items to commit identity fraud.
Chief Chuck Hasty said there is currently no evidence to suggest the five people arrested where going to use the fake gift cards locally and said they appeared to be passing through the area. “We don't know if they used them here. That's still under investigation. Additional charges will be pending if they did.”
In a statement, Hasty said Officer Jamie Hardy and Investigator J.K. Davis responded to investigate. After speaking with management about the smell of marijuana coming from a room, the officers and management went to investigate.
Once at the door, the officers could smell marijuana coming from the room.
When the officers knocked, they heard movement and the toilet flush.
A man opened the door and the officers found Pricilla Elizabeth Dasilva, 18; Ean Benzi Bethea-Windsor 24; Alister Augustus Palmer, 19, and Marc Brown, 22, all of New York, inside the room. During a search of the room officers found several fake identifications, a credit card embosser, numerous gift cards, a card reader and marijuana residue floating in the toilet.
Master Officer Roy Ball located Paul Mitchell Agenor, 20, in the motel parking lot.
They were charged with four counts of financial card transaction card forgery and four counts of conspiracy to commit financial card forgery.
They received $10,000 bonds and October 21 court dates.
