A man with ties to the Littleton and Pitt County area awaits an October 21 court date for motor vehicle break-in charges lodged by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Brian Thomas Wellman, 36, also awaits a December 10 court date in Pitt County for misdemeanor resisting a public officer, court records show.

Detective Obert Wiltsie of the Halifax sheriff's office said the charges against Wellman stem from an investigation by Deputy J. Matthews on September 12 when he responded to the Littleton area of Woodlandhurst Lane on a suspicious vehicle call.

When Matthews attempted to stop the vehicle the driver, later identified as Wellman, exited and ran.

Matthews obtained warrants for resisting an officers.

Also on September 12, a vehicle was stolen from the same area and later found on Rockcrest Lane in the Littleton area.

Wellman was spotted in the area and a chase ensued. Lieutenant R. Keeton and Sergeant R.D. Bozard caught Wellman and charged him with resisting.

Items recovered following his arrest shed light on several motor vehicle break-ins in the area, Wiltsie said in a statement.

He was charged with three counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle; two counts of larceny after breaking and entering; two counts of possession of stolen goods; larceny of a motor vehicle and injury to personal property.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office served Wellman on September 28 and he received a $100,000 bond.
