A juvenile charged in a December 11 shooting on Madison Street has been ordered to go through the Halifax County superior court system, records confirm.

District Court Judge Teresa Robinson Freeman signed the transfer order sending the case of Daquon Martin, 15, of Gaston, to superior court on February 25. The order was just filed in superior court recently.

Martin, along with Jimmy Williams Jr., who was arrested Saturday, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy. He also faces charges of possession of stolen goods, felony larceny, larceny after breaking and entering and breaking and entering.

Documents filed in the clerk of courts office in Halifax do not go into detail, only to say a transfer hearing was held and probable cause was found the juvenile committed offenses when aged 13-15 which allow his case to be transferred to superior court for trial.

Sammy Webb, Martin's attorney, had no comment today, only to confirm his client and Williams are related and he will be tried as an adult.

As of this report Martin remains in juvenile custody under $200,000 bond and faces a litany of restrictions should he be released.

Under those restrictions he would be on electronic monitoring with a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. He would only be allowed to leave home to attend school and to participate in any school-related extracurricular activities during the day if he is involved in any. He would only be allowed to leave home with his mother, not possess a weapon of any kind for any reason; not be involved in any gang activity and have no contact with Williams.

He would also not be allowed to possess any stolen property.

Captain Bobby Martin of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, also confirmed Martin and Williams are related and that Martin was the juvenile also charged in a string of vehicle break-ins last summer with Williams and Hakeem Martin.

Asked if he believed Martin's case was transferred to superior court because of the nature of the charges lodged against him, Captain Martin said, “Yes, I would agree.”
