The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following:

Monday March 21, 2016

At approximately 2:45 p.m., Officer Ryan Cross responded to a call from a homeowner who found someone inside their residence in the 1200 block of Jefferson Street.

Cross found William Bradley Butcher, 54, of Roanoke Rapids, in a vehicle in the driveway.

Cross detained Butcher and spoke with the victim.

The victim told Cross they left the residence to go to the store and when they returned Butcher was inside their residence in the living room.

Cross arrested and charged Butcher, who received a $5,000 bond and May 5 court date, with breaking and entering.

Sergeant Mark Peck and Officer Joey Spragins assisted.

Tuesday March 22, 2016

At approximately 9 a.m., Cross responded to a domestic call in the 100 block of Oakridge Drive.

Cross could hear arguing when he arrived.

Cross noticed blood on the shirt of Branden Kason Allen, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, as he came down stairs, and detained him until Officer Patrick Smith arrived.

Cross found the victim bleeding from the head and face.

Allen was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and served with an outstanding order for arrest.

He was jailed without opportunity for bond and given an April 8 court date.

The victim was treated and released from hospital.

Peck assisted.

At approximately 6 p.m., Smith responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Donna Jo Smith, 49, of Roanoke Rapids, took items.

Smith arrested and charged Ms. Smith with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

She was also served with two outstanding orders for arrest from Carrabus County. She received a $6,000 bond and April 8 court date.

Master Officer Gerald Morris assisted.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., Sergeant Mike Moseley and Officer Dale Strickland responded to a medical emergency call at Motel 6.

Officers encountered Jeffrey Naquan Powell, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, who had an outstanding order for arrest.

He received a $4,000 bond and April 20 court date.

Wednesday March 23, 2016

At approximately 3:15 a.m., officers Jeffrey Mason and Alex Green arrested and charged a homeless man, Nashown Laquan Alston 22, after they found him inside an activity bus at Roanoke Rapids High School.

The squad was checking the high school after a report was filed on March 17 the concession stand at the football field was broken into.

Officers learned by watching video footage Alston had been inside the school on several different nights and times, taking items from various rooms in the buildings.

Alston was charged with five counts of breaking and entering; five counts of larceny after breaking and entering; five counts of possession of stolen goods and a count of breaking and entering a motor vehicle.

He received a $15,000 bond and May 18 court date.

Lieutenant Jeff Baggett and Investigator Chris Babb assisted.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be pending. Hasty said investigators are still trying to determine how Alston gained access inside the school.

Several items were recovered the police department is trying to determine ownership.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., Smith responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Craig Branch, 32, of Roanoke Rapids, took items from the store.

Smith arrested and charged Branch with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

He received a $1,000 bond and April 15 court date.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Smith responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Frank McCoy Brown, 63, of Conway, took items from the store.

Smith cited Brown, who was released until his April 15 court date, with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Mason responded to a domestic call in the 700 block of Charlotte Street.

Halifax Central notified officers the male, later identified as Stephen Earl Snider, 41, of Roanoke Rapids, left the residence once 911 was called.

Green saw Snider running by T.J. Davis and detained him.

Mason spoke with the victim and noticed injuries.

Snider was arrested and charged with assault on a female.

He received a $1,000 bond and April 15 court date.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., Strickland was on patrol in the area of Lowe's Home Improvement when he noticed a woman later identified as Eliza Howell Taylor, 55, of Weldon, with a hanging basket in her hand.

Strickland determined Taylor took the basket from one of the racks outside the garden center.

Strickland cited Taylor, who was released until her May 13 court date, for larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Master Officer Adam Salmon, Officer Natara Velazquez and Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dustin Newsome assisted.

Thursday March 24, 2016

At approximately 12:30 a.m., Strickland responded to a disturbance call at Waffle House on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

Strickland located Herman Blount, 54, at the business and learned he had an outstanding order for arrest.

Blount received a $400 bond and April 11 court date.
