The declaration is effective this evening at 9.

County government is still operating but staff will clean and sanitize facilities as necessary.

During the curfew, all persons except for those who are expressly exempt as essential businesses or operations as identified within the governor's stay at home order, shall not be or travel upon any public street, alley or roadway or upon public property, unless in search of medical assistance, food or other commodity or service necessary to sustain the well being of themselves or their families.

The Northampton County Health Department said in an update Monday there are 53 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19.

The additional nine cases reported are in isolation. Currently, the majority of all cases continue to have only mild symptoms with many being asymptomatic.

Five out of the 53 cases have been deemed recovered.

Further testing has been done and individual results are pending.
