As of midnight Thursday, there were 86 positive cases of the novel coronavirus in Halifax County.
Health system Director Bruce Robistow said in his afternoon update the department is aware of 545 confirmed tests.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reports on its dashboard there are 31 positive cases within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code. The one death in the county was also within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code.
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety reports there remain 17 positive cases at Caledonia Correctional Institution in Tillery.
Robistow said in his update, the breakdown of 545 confirmed tests is as follows:
86 total positive cases; one related death; and 48 recoveries.
Robistow did say in his update, “We are aware of some businesses in our county that have positive cases and we are working with them to ensure that they follow proper precautions and protocols.”
He declined to elaborate on the names or nature of those businesses.
It is known, according to the NCDHHS dashboard, the businesses which have positive cases in the county are not nursing homes or residential care facilities.

In the update, Robistow said, “You will note that although we had a decline yesterday, our trend continues to go up and should be taken very seriously. Although our numbers may be small, an increasing trend is a good indicator of the fact that more tests are being performed, and that we cannot forget the importance of following the executive orders and recommendations.
“Please be sure to practice appropriate social distancing, handwashing, respiratory hygiene, and wearing facial covering whenever you are out in public.”
Northampton County
Currently, there remain 117 total positive cases of which 71 have recovered, its health department reported this afternoon. There are seven COVID-19 related deaths in the county.
